German tourists spend 218 euros per day in Malaga

5 December 2013

German tour-operators specializing in golf tourism have taken part in a familiarization trip aiming to transfer Malaga's image among German market tourism professionals. German tourists interested in practicing this sport spend an average of 218 euros per day, an amount that is only second to Scandinavian tourists spending habits – 227 euros per day. This trip, which is organized by the Tourism Board of Costa del Sol in partnership with Andalusian Tourism and the backing of the Spanish Tourism Office (OET) at Dusseldorf, has allowed strong ties with key players in this sector – hotels and golf resorts in Marbella, as well as golf courses — and German market channels.

According to a release made to Europa Press from the Board, this trip has also allowed to identify new business opportunities and to foster partnerships with consolidated ties. Moreover, it includes products from the Axarquia / Nerja area, which has “great affinity” with the German market.

Elias Bendodo, president of the Tourism Board and the Malaga Council has pointed out that 85.5% of German golfers have enjoyed a vacation, golf having been the main motivation for their trip. It is the highest rate among countries for this type of tourism, like United Kingdom, Ireland, Scandinavia and France, aside from Spain, which is the favorite destination for 23% of German passengers who enjoy golfing.

They have stressed the fact that aside from their average spending habits, the average length of the German tourists’ stay is 7.4% nights and that they often come to destinations in small groups. During their trip, the tourism professionals have had the chance to become familiar with Malaga province’s offer after the second edition of the Sol German Cup, a tournament that took place during the tour-operator’s visit.

They also got to visit the province’s golf courses, Malaga capital, Nerja, Marbella and Puerto Banús and Estepona’s area. They visited Villa Padierna Golf Club, Valle Roman, Baviera Golf, Parador Málaga-Golf, the capital and two hotels, one in the city and the other in Estepona, aside from being transferred to lunch at Lake Viñuela.

Marbella Taxis provide golf transfers in taxi or minibus from Malaga airport to most of the golf clubs in the Marbella area.
