Hotel Don Miguel in Marbella to be transformed

17 December 2013

The nine-year nightmare is about to end for 240 ex-workers from one of the jewels of the luxury hotel industry in Marbella, Hotel Don Miguel. The international group Magna Hotels & Resorts, owners of the building since the year 2012, announced yesterday that they will be tackling a total renovation of this hotel in order to transfer it into a real five star hotel and luxury resort in 2016 at the latest.

The company said so yesterday via a statement, in which they announced that the engineering plan and the bidding documents are “in the very last stages of preparation”. Projects presented so far from Magna Hotels & Resorts show a beautiful modern design for the hotel and some of the particulars that will become part of the new features of the Magna Palace Hotel, as it will be named once it opens to tourists again.

The old Don Miguel hotel, that had 550 rooms before closing down, will reopen with 300 deluxe rooms and 73 suites with seaside and African coast views. The project being handled by the international company plans to create a 22.000 square meters shopping center that will hold some of the most exclusive worldwide name brand name shops. There will also be a luxury taxi transfer service from and to Malaga Airport.

The new resort will house twelve luxury gourmet restaurants, one of them with panoramic views that will be built on the top floor, a business center with several meeting rooms, a 5.000 meters square spa and gym area and a 1.750 square meters disco.

It’s an ambitious project that will start on the second trimester of 2014, according to the statement released by the business company. Their hope is that the building will be finished in 2015 or 2016. During this process, Magna Hotels & Resorts plans to create 1.500 new jobs and once the hotel reopens, 600 more jobs.
