21 April 2014

Marbella and Malaga City have been voted by the Tripadvisor Traveller’s Choice users as two of the very best tourism destinations throughout Spain. These prestigious awards take into account the opinion of travelers on hotels, restaurants and places of interest in the destinations.

Damián Caneda, councilor for Culture, Sports and Tourism was in charge of receiving this award from the General Manager of Turespaña, Marta Blanco. Representatives from the ten destinations that received the award attended the awards ceremony, as well as the Mayor of Marbella, Angeles Muñoz.

Traveler’s Choice 2014 awards are given to the most important places for tourism worldwide, according to opinions and comments from TripAdvisor users. Damián Caneda expressed his satisfaction because of this fact it is tourists themselves that recognize Malaga as a dynamic and high quality tourism offer. Also, Angeles Muñoz highlighted that the award is wide recognition for the collective effort of the town of Marbella, that we have carried out the last few years, aside from being an important boost to the public image of Marbella when linked to high quality. In her opinion this award shows that the town is going in the right direction. Marbella is one of the main tourism spots in Spain and is fully challenged to maintain and go on to improve this current position and hopefully transfer to a higher slot in the prizes.

Malaga took third place in the ranking, only behind Barcelona and Madrid. In fact, Andalucía has been the autonomous region with the largest number of winning destinations inclduing Malaga, Sevilla, Granada, Marbella and Cordoba. Mallorca comes next with two winning towns, Calviá and Sóller.

The sixth edition of Travelers Choice has awarded prizes to almost 500 destinations worldwide, including places in Africa, Asia, Australia, Canada, Caribbean, Central America, Europe, China, Middle East, South America, United Kingdom and United States.
