Marbella promenade expansion

20 October 2014

Marbella’s Town Council continues to work on their goal to expand the promenade towards the east side of Marbella, with the request for bids for construction of the coastal trail in the stretch that will run through “El Cable” beach. The enhancement and extension of the promenade has been one of the priorities of the counsel in order to offer a first class infrastructure for both tourists and the town’s residents alike.

Currently the promenade stretches between La Bajadilla and Guadalmina with two small interruptions that will, presumably be fixed in a short period of time. Marbella leaders have launched a “mega-project” that will connect La Bajadilla with Rio Real beach by four path sections, one of which – the one that runs between Arroyo Segundo to Arroyo Pozuelo - is not far from completion. The second section has recently been put up for bids, with a budget of €600,000 and a deadline of five months and October 29th is the deadline for bid submissions.

The town council will undertake the other two sections subsequently, which runs between Arroyo Pozuelo and Río Real, which will span 800 meters and will require an investment of €900,000, and then the Rio Real section, running 640 meters long and requiring €500,000 to complete

In addition, a walkway four meters wide and street lights will be installed, and drinking water pipes will be placed through the walkway in order to service future needs, such as showers or drinking fountains for the beach. The project includes the installation of urban furniture and the demolition and replacement of walls and fences belonging to adjoining plots.

Marbella Taxis fully support the project and look forward to seeing it completed within the aforementioned time frames.
